Sideboard: Dine to Living

Sideboard has been known as home furniture and reached its fame during 19th century as household. Consisting of a set of cabinets, or cupboards, and one or more drawers, all topped by a flat display surface. It was happened to be placed at the dining with the storage made for serving food, for displaying serving dishes such as silver, china and glass. The materials used in historic sideboard manufacture include oak, pine and walnut.

As the time goes by, sideboard has its other functions and versions. It is not merely placed at the dining but it more as decorative fashionable furniture. It is placed in the living room or bedroom to transform a dull atmosphere area into a more comfortable look. With the ample storage and space, it looks tidy when all the stuff stored in the drawers. On the flat top, some pieces of decoration can be put, such as:  vase of blossoms, chandelier, or even craft.

One should be concerned, is that the choice of sideboard has to be matched with the home design and interior color.  Some critical points about sideboard have been changed through time.  For instance, the material has spread to mahogany and teak instead of the old version ones. The style has also changed following the era change from traditional to modern contemporary furniture style.
